5 Top Kid-friendly Chicken Recipe Ideas

Posted on August 29, 2012

We all know that kids can be a little picky when it comes to eating the good-for-you stuff. Well, we’re happy to report that due to its mild flavor, juicy texture and, yes, light golden color chicken ends up on the “yes” list more often than other proteins. That means you’re free to serve it to the little ones as often as you want! Just in time for back to school, here are a few of our favorite kid friendly chicken recipes to help you with your homework.

Pizza-fy Your Bird: From chicken nuggets to patties to whole breasts, a little marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese go a long way. Drizzle tomato sauce on top of individual nuggets, patties or pan-seared chicken breast and sprinkle with grated cheese. Place under the broiler for a pizza-licious chicken meal.

Break Out the Drumsticks: Toss drumsticks in BBQ sauce or give them a sweet honey soy glaze, then pop them in the oven for a slow roast. Sticky, sweet and yummy, nothing beats a drumstick dinner!

Crisp it Up: Chicken skin has lots of flavor, especially when it’s crisped and golden brown. Drizzle chicken thighs with a bit of olive oil and season delicately with salt and pepper, then roast in a 425°F oven for 45-60 minutes until cooked through and just right all around.

Go for Fun Dips: Whether you’re serving finger foods like FreeBird Popcorn Chicken or your kids are diligent with fork and knife, they always love adding a little of their own flavor. Choices are an added bonus. Create a palette of sauces: mixing peanut butter and mayo; honey & mustard; and ketchup with ranch dressing. A little dip goes a long way to a clean plate.

Turn to Art: With a green bean “center”, two slices of chicken breast can turn into butterfly wings. Or, four or five slices fanned in a circle can be the petals of a flower. Make beautiful dishes for the kids and they’ll amuse you by making it all disappear.
